Moreno joining Brown in NFL Draft

Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno (Middletown South) is joining old Pop Warner teammate Donald Brown (Red Bank Catholic/UConn) in the 2009 NFL Draft as he made the announcement at 3 p.m. today. Moreno is being projected as a mid-first rounder according to numerous mock drafts. You can find a whole database of mock drafts here. Moreno could be the first running back selected if Beanie Wells from Ohio State decides not to declare from the draft. Congrats to Moreno, although it will be odd when I’m paying the usual ridiculous NFL ticket price to see a player I covered back when he was 14 years old, but that’s how the system works and he’s earned it. With QB Matt Stafford also leaving, who knows how Georgia would be next year and whether Moreno would take a beating as the featured back. I think he did the right thing because he essentially is a guarateed millionaire at this point barring anything crazy before the draft.

I couldn’t agree more Scott. This guy is something special and I believe he will have success at the next level as well. He just has that IT factor. We all hold our breath everytime he touches the ball. It has been that way since I first heard of the kid at South and he hasn’t missed a step at GA. So why wouldn’t he be just as exiting at the pro level? I think you are going to be telling your grandkids one day, “you know, Grandpa Stumpy used to interview Mr. Moreno when he was in high school”………………… Sure you did grandpa, sure you did!

You are right. From the minute he arrived at South, there was something electric about him but when I knew he would make it was when I heard the stories of his relentless work ethic and work in the weight room. He not only has freakish natural talent, which tons of guys in the NFL have, but he has an uncommon drive and work ethic. Put those two together and you have most likely a top 20 pick in the draft. As long as he doesn’t get taken by a rival AFC East team of the Jets, I wish him all the success in the world.
