Southern senior Anthony Stroffolino, who was selected to the first team of the All Shore Media All Conference Team as a defensive end, has committed to the University of Pennsylvania. Stroffolino finished with 50 tackles and 2 sacks for a Southern team that won a school-record 10 games and reached its first state sectional final ever. He joins Rumson-Fair Haven defensive tackle Taylor Brown as the second senior from the Shore to commit to UPenn. For a list of the Shore Conference’s football commitments thus far, click here.
Also, just a quick update on the two stars of last season’s Red Bank Regional boys hoops squad, Matt Pebole and Will Sanborn. Pebole is now at Division III Hobart College and has started four straight games, averaging double figures in all four. He currently is third on the team at 9.1 ppg and second on the team at 4.8 rebounds per game. Sanborn, meanwhile, is part of the currently undefeated team at Cecil Community College, the second-ranked Division II junior college in the nation. Not surprisingly, Sanborn has been one of the team’s top scorers this season and on Wednesday night, he did his best Jodie Meeks impression when he drained a school-record 10 3-pointers on his way to 30 points in a win over Chesapeake College on Wednesday night.
I’m working to get the alumni pages done for girls and boys, as UMass freshman Kristina Danella (Red Bank Catholic) has also made an immediate impact in her college career, as she is fourth on the team in scoring (7.6 ppg) and third in rebounding (4.2 rpg). She also has scored in double figures in three straight games, including 18 in a loss on Wednesday night.
