Received an e-mail this morning from Manasquan head coach Art Gordon that he has resigned as Warriors head coach after 10 seasons with the Warriors on the heels of a 14-8 season in which Manasquan shared the Class A Central public title with Shore Regional for their first division title since 2002.
“It was time,” Gordon wrote in the e-mail.
Gordon is also the president of the Shore Baseball Coaches Association, which leaves that position in doubt as well if he does not stay as president. He is also a long-time assistant for the Warriors powerhouse football program as the running backs/special teams coach, and it remains to be seen if he will still be coaching football. His wicked sarcasm always made reading his e-mails of game reports during the season a bright spot amidst the occasional drudgery of the dog days of the season and he worked very hard for the SBCA and to support baseball in the Shore Conference, so his presence will be missed. Maybe we’ll even get him to write some guest columns for All Shore Media now that he’s a free agent.
That also now officially leaves openings at Howell, as coach Bill Gallacher has stepped down, and Manasquan, and from what I’ve heard there are two other jobs that will be open soon as well.
Also, just a reminder that the SBCA Senior All-Star Game is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood. Tickets are $5 to see the Shore’s top seniors one last time, as Monmouth County meets Ocean County. Because of the Carpenter Cup rule that blocks Division I signees from playing, all of those top players are now available to play in this game, so it’s definitely worth the money.
