While much was made of Manalapan’s Kevin Cruz finishing with over 1,100 yards receiving this year, he was one of two Shore Conference receivers to go over the 1,000-yard mark. I believe this may be the first time in history that the Shore had a pair of 1,000-yard receivers in one season, as Howell senior Phil Adamo set a school record with 1,024 yards receiving this year for the Rebels.
He also set the school single-season record for catches (67) and the career record for catches (114), edging Chance Carrick’s previous record of 113. His 1,726 career yards receiving, 12 touchdown catches this season and 16 career touchdown catches are all school records.
Senior quarterback Jimmy Ryan also set school single-season records for completions (195); yards (2,786) and touchdown passes (28). He also passed Sean O’Reilly by 31 yards as the school’s all-time leading passer with 4,291 yards and his 38 career touchdown passes are also a record.
Former Toms River East star Colin Gaynor is believed to hold the Shore Conference career passing record with 6,619 yards, but Ryan’s 2,786 may have beaten Gaynor’s best single-season mark, which is the Shore Conference record. I have to look that up because I’m not 100 percent sure.
